Case study – 9 screen, toilets and concessions fit out

Background

The big screen returns to Walthamstow with a stunning new state-of-the-art nine screen 1200 seat Empire Cinema. It will be the first time in more than a decade that people do not need to travel outside the borough to the cinema.
Council leader Chris Robbins was on-site yesterday at The Scene to officially hand it over to Empire Cinema’s chief executive Justin Ribbons.

Mr Ribbons said: “We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone which will ultimately see the return of the silver screen to Walthamstow for the first time in more than a decade.”

Challenges

Early in the planning stages a deadline was set for a red carpet style opening event. The challenge was to fit the shell out to the required high standards set by the Empire, and deliver the cinema on time for the opening event.

Solutions

The site and project management team ensured through hard work, man management and efficiency that this would be achievable.

Results

Thursday 20th November: Empire Cinemas, the largest independently owned cinema chain in the UK opened their cinema in Walthamstow, East London. The new cinema was launched in true red-carpet style at the new development, The Scene, with 460 VIP guests attending a private screening of the highly anticipated film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.
With all the glitz of the West End in East End, the launch was attended by a host of film-loving celebrities including actress Olivia Hallinan, singers A*M*E and Delilah, Britain’s Got Talent’s The loveable Rogues and Rudimental’s DJ Locksmith. Special guests from Waltham Forest Council also included the leader , Chris Robbins and Mayor Terry Wheeler.
